1 Day Moreton Island 4WD Eco Tour

Explore the spectacular beauty of Moreton Island on this full day 4WD Eco Adventure.
- After a luxury cruise across beautiful Moreton Bay to Moreton Island we board our 4WD and drive off the ferry directly on to the beach. Moreton Island is the worlds third largest sand island of which 98% is a protected National Park, with no sealed roads, 4WD is the only mode of transport!
- First, we travel along the western side of the island through the small village of Bulwer, a small holiday and fishing village, surrounded by National Park.
- Travelling further north we visit Heath Island (tides permitting), a tidal lake system which features wading birds, soldier crabs and other marine life.
- Next, we head to Five Hills Lookout. A short walk takes us to the lookout which gives us commanding views of the Glass House Mountains and Heath Island.
- Boogy Boarding and body surfing is next! We are off to Yellow Patch and North Point with great safe surf beaches. Explore the rockpools and take a walk to Honeymoon Bay, a spectacular secluded beach surrounded by rocky headland.
- After a delicious picnic lunch, we are off to Cape Moreton Lighthouse and Information centre. This imposing rock Headland is 80m above sea level and gives us commanding views across all of Moreton Island and the beautiful Glass House Mountains. Look out to sea and spot Dolphins, Turtles and Whales (June To October). Moreton Island is home to hundreds of different birds, featuring White Bellied Sea Eagles, Pied Oyster Catchers, Pelicans and thousands of wading birds.
- Our last stop is Blue Lagoon, one of Moreton Island’s beautiful fresh water lakes. Take a dip and soak up the naturally occurring tea tree oils (the fountain of youth)
- Once rejuvenated we begin our return journey along the picturesque Open Beach with 38km of uninterrupted surf beach. Travelling across the Middle Road, through thick eucalypt forest, featuring beautiful Xanthorrhoea (Grass Trees) up to 250 years old, we return to the ferry for our beautiful cruise home. What a day!

Departures are not weather dependent. We recommend you come prepared for the prevailing conditions. In cases of extreme weather conditions Moreton Bay Escapes and Bushwacker Eco Tours reserve the right to change the scheduled destination for customer safety and enjoyment. - Our Moreton Island Snorkel and Sandboarding tour starts with a luxury cruise across beautiful Moreton Bay to Moreton Island. On arrival we board our 4WD and drive off the ferry directly on to the beach. Moreton Island is the worlds third largest sand island of which 98% is a protected National Park, with no sealed roads, 4WD is the only mode of transport!
- Travelling by 4WD along Middle Road, we pass through thick eucalypt forest, featuring beautiful Xanthorrhoea (Grass Trees) up to 250 years old on our way to The Desert, the home of Sand Boarding.
- Sand boarding and tobogganing is an awesome fun, high speed and high adrenalin activity and speeds of up to 50km/h can be reached. From beginners, young children and families, to the most adventurous adrenalin junkie, The Desert is the perfect place to learn, or fine tune, your sand boarding skills. This open sand dune is shaped every day by winds that form the perfect wave. Make sure you bring your camera to get plenty of impressive shots!
- While a fresh picnic lunch is prepared by your guide take a moment to relax on the white sandy beach. Go for a leisurely walk or swim, or take some time out to sunbake.
- After lunch we take you on a guided snorkel around the Tangalooma Shipwrecks. With 15 shipwrecks located just 50m off the beach, the Tangalooma Shipwrecks are home to one of Queensland’s most diverse marine eco systems. See a huge range of marine life including Butterbrim, blue and orange banded Parrotfish, Big Eye Trevally, Wobbegong, Blue-Tang Surgeonfish (Dory) and Clown Fish (Nemo)!
- For those people who are not strong swimmers or do not wish to snorkel, Kayaking around the Shipwrecks is a fantastic alternative option. View these magnificent shipwrecks from above the water for a completely different outlook on Moreton Bay and its spectacular scenery. Kayaking may also be offered as an alternative to snorkelling should conditions be unfavourable.
- Regrettably, we finish the day with our return to the ferry for a luxury cruise back to Brisbane.
